Is Our Democracy in Crisis? – Civics 101
This course with Quentin Findlay offers a clear and practical introduction to civics, exploring how citizenship works in practice. Topics include political parties, political systems, local government, and interest groups, with a mix of history, sociology, economics and philosophy woven through. A great way to better understand how the system works, without needing a law degree.
Dates: Mondays starting on 11 May 2026 (5 sessions).

The World of Economics Explained
What is economics, and how does it shape everyday life? This fun and accessible course with Michael Couch looks at big topics such as inflation, interest rates, trade, poverty, wealth, and the cost of living, while also making space for participants’ questions. With the 2026 election likely to focus on the economy, this is a timely chance to build your understanding.
Dates: Tuesdays starting 12th May (5 Sessions).

Introduction to Modern Iran
This one-day course with Hamish McGregor provides a rich introduction to Iran’s history, people and culture. Covering geography, identity, religion, the Persian language and 20th century politics, it offers a broad overview of one of the world’s great civilisations. Tutor Hamish McGregor brings deep knowledge from his PhD research and years of living and working in Iran.
