Help shape the future of Linwood Park
Christchurch City Council Newsline: 5th May 2026
Changes are being proposed for Linwood Park, and the community is invited to share their thoughts on the plans.
The well-utilised park is home to the largest league club Ōtautahi Christchurch, the Linwood Rugby League Football Club or Linwood Keas. The Keas want to build clubrooms next to the newly opened changing rooms in the park, as well as installing additional sports field lighting to meet the needs of their growing club.
The proposed plan involves the Keas applying for a lease for the clubrooms, as well as moving existing facilities in the park around.
To make space for the proposed clubrooms, the existing skate park would need to be relocated. A new skate park and centralised playscape is planned, which will be designed with community input.
Head of Parks Rupert Bool says the proposal is an opportunity to improve how the park works for everyone who uses it.
“Linwood Park is an important part of the local community, used every day by people of all ages for sport, recreation and spending time outdoors. We want to make sure the park continues to be a place everyone feels welcome and proud of.
“We really want people to be part of the conversation. This consultation is about hearing what the community values, what works well and what could be improved – so we can make informed decisions together.”
Linwood Keas have been without permanent clubrooms since 2014. The proposed new facility would support seasonal sport, club and community activities, and whānau connection. All costs associated with the clubrooms would be met by the Keas.
While the design is still being developed, the clubrooms would have a footprint of no more than 600m². The club is not applying for an ongoing alcohol licence, although special licences may be sought for one‑off events.
Linwood Park has three sports fields, with the field closest to the new changing rooms already having lighting. The club also wants to install seven 25m tall lights by the two remaining fields. The club would cover the costs for the sports lighting, which will comply with District Plan rules around lux levels and glare.
Have your say and help shape the future of Linwood Park. Feedback closes on Thursday 11th June 2026.
