Disability Law: Know Your Rights
The Enabling Good Lives (EGL) Waitaha Regional Leadership Team, Aspire Canterbury and Disabled Persons Assembly NZ (DPA) are proud to host two days of FREE sessions on disabled people's rights in Christchurch.
All session will be held at the BrainTree Wellness Centre (70 Langdons Road, Papanui).
Day 1: Friday 4th April 2025
Advocating for your child’s Rights in Education (10 to 11.30am)
Suitable for parents and whānau and will cover disabled children's rights under the Education Act and advocacy strategies.
Supported decision making and the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act (12.15pm to 1.45pm)
Suitable for disabled people, parents, whānau and other support people and will cover orders under the PPPR Act such as welfare guardianship, property administration and property management.
Day 2: Friday 11th April 2025
Your rights in Employment (10 to 11.30am)
Suitable for disabled people, parents, whānau and other support people and will cover what can and cannot be asked in an interview, reasonable accommodations in the workplace, pay and leave entitlements and disability related dismissals.
Your Housing rights (12.15 to 1.45pm)
Suitable for disabled people, parents, whānau and other support people and will cover rights and responsibilities as a tenant, landlords’ obligations and how to resolve problems in a tenancy.
