Test your emergency preparedness with a quick survey
Environment Canterbury media release: 18th February 2025
Emergency Management Canterbury (Canterbury CDEM) is undertaking a preparedness survey for residents in the Waitaha/Canterbury region.
The survey will check your preparedness for an emergency that could impact you, your family and your community. It will ask questions about hazard awareness, general preparedness, communication during an emergency and awareness of recent civil defence campaigns.
Regional Manager for Canterbury CDEM James Thompson says surveys like these help to understand the community’s awareness of potential civil defence emergencies and hazards.
"Measuring preparedness and resilience levels of residents will give our civil defence teams a clear view of how to contact communities in the event of an emergency and where the resource needs to go," says James.
"Now is also a timely reminder to review your emergency preparedness plans. Being prepared is one of the most beneficial things you can do for you and your family."
Take the Canterbury emergency preparedness survey.
The survey runs from Monday 17th February to Monday 10th March 2025 and will take 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
Surveys can be completed online, using a QR code or a paper version which can be made available as requested. They will also be placed in libraries and service centres across the region.
The results from the survey will provide Canterbury CDEM with an overview of the status of home, work and community preparedness activities across Waitaha, providing each district and the region opportunities to benchmark and consider future budgets for targeted campaigns where gaps exist.
