Celebrate NZ Chinese Language Week at ChCh City Libraries
New Zealand Chinese Language Week is being held from Sunday 22nd to Saturday 28th September 2024. Come along to celebrate at FREE events across the Christchurch City Libraries.
The events and programmes will be mainly delivered in Mandarin, with some featuring Cantonese rhymes or songs. Other Chinese languages spoken in Aotearoa include Hokkien, Hakka, and Teochew.

Chinese Language Week Celebration
There will be special performances for everyone to enjoy and engaging hand-on activities for children. All whānau welcome.
Date: Saturday 28th September 2024.
Time: 1 to 3pm.
Location: Te Hāpua Halswell Centre.
Bilingual Storytimes
Join these events with a fun variety of stories, songs and rhymes to foster children's literacy. All whānau and caregivers welcome.
- Monday 23rd September 2024 (10 to 10.30am): Upper Riccarton Library.
- Tuesday 24th September 2024 (10.30-11am): Ōrauwhata: Bishopdale Library and Community Centre - differs from what's listed in the Spring events guide!
- Wednesday 25th September 2024 (10.15 to 10.45am): Matatiki Hornby Centre.
- Wednesday 25th September 2024 (10.30 to 11am): Shirley Library.
- Thursday 26th September 2024 (11 to 11.30am): Te Hāpua Halswell Centre.
- Saturday 28th September 2024 (11 to 11.30am): Turanga.
After School Activity Zone
Join in with a variety of activities including craft, calligraphy and cultural experience in a fun learning environment. All whānau welcome!
