Spirited Conversations: Economics as if People and Planet Matters
Former Chair of the Productivity Commission Dr Ganesh Nana will lead the discussion on a broader approach to economics. Ganesh will share why the market economy is inherently short-sighted, and not well-placed to confront the long-term challenges of climate change, inequality, geopolitics, and demography that face society today. Further, the inherent focus of the market economy is individualistic and overlooks the advantages of collective approaches to confronting these challenges.
Date: Wednesday 9th October 2024.
Time: 6pm.
Location: Wānanga Room at Aldersgate (309 Durham Street North, Central City).
Cost: FREE. Parking and bike racks are available off Chester Street West.
The session will explore a range of wider economic perspectives and prescriptions - outside of the market economy paradigm - that we in Aotearoa could and should consider in transforming our economic activities towards collective, longer-term community objectives.
