Hear Professor Ivan Sammut talk about his research to understand how endogenous transmitters such as carbon monoxide act as protective molecules during cardiac surgery and in transplantation. His team’s collaborations with HeartOtago have led to the design and development of these novel compounds as therapeutic agents.

People, places and connections: Importance of networks and contacts for a healthy brain
Hear Professor Beulah Leitch talk about her research on brain synapses in health and disease. Brain cells (neurons) talk to each other at specialised connections called synapses enabling us to feel, react, think, learn, and form memories.
Beulah is an internationally recognised neuroscientist who looks at how genetically altered synaptic proteins cause functional abnormalities underlying brain disorders such as epilepsy and how synaptic dysfunction and cognitive deficits may impact degenerative brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
