Te oneone, te kākano me te kai: Soil, seed and food sovereignty and wellbeing
Soil, seed and food health are key to our wellbeing and are indicators of the health of living things. In order to care properly for these resources, we need to move away from the processes of extractive capitalism and reframe how we view them.
Soil is taonga in te ao Māori. It is also whanaunga - it holds ancestral connections and is the root of turangawaewae and whakapapa. It is the source of shelter, kai and manaakitanga.
Join this kōrero with Jessica Hutchings, Jo Smith and Juanita Hepi as they discuss the stories of hua parakore (Māori organics framework) growers from around the country, delve into the GMO debate, and explore the connections between soil and food security within the context of rangatiratanga.
Date: Monday 25th November 2024.
Time: 6 to 7pm.
Location: Toi Auaha (5 Worcester Boulevard, Central City).
Cost: FREE.
