New booking system for Rakaia Huts Campground

Wednesday, October 2, 2024   Posted in: Signatory Notice Board By: Administrator With tags: camping, technology, management

Selwyn District Council media release: 1st October 2024

The Selwyn District Council will be making some changes to how the Rakaia Huts Campground operates from Monday 7th October 2024.

The Council has contracted Penny (formerly KiwiCash) to install an automatic gate, booking system and digital pay-to-use showers.

The decision to go digital was made by the Council for security and safety reasons. Digital bookings removes all cash from the site - eliminating risks of theft and the need for staff to collect cash.

You will need to establish a Penny account to stay at the campground.
Visit the Penny website to set up an account or find Penny in your app store.

Penny is a long-established South Island company that operates payment systems and campgrounds around New Zealand. By signing up with Penny you will have access to their more than 30 locations around New Zealand.

Both the Council and Penny are aware of the challenges to changing to digital systems and the concerns that some people may have. So the Council are hosting an open day and BBQ on Saturday 5th October 2024 at the campground if you need help establishing you Penny account - prior to the system going live. Come along between noon and 6pm, as the Penny team will be on site to help you get set up and answer any questions you may have. There will be a BBQ provided from noon.

Bookings from 7th October 2024 can now be made on Penny, so please check it out.

Anyone who has made a booking for dates past 7th October 2024 will need to get in contact with the team at Penny.

Contact Penny if you require any assistance - 0800 140 147 or help[at]go-penny.com.
