Health Protection Officer wanted at NPHS Te Mana Ora
Te Mana Ora - part of the National Public Health Service - is looking for a health protection officer to join their Te Waipounamu regional team. This is a permanent fixed-term role available in either Christchurch, Timaru or Greymouth.
Health Protection Officers hold responsibility for monitoring, compliance, operational policy implementation and providing evidence-based advice and information that aims to improve, promote and protect the health of our population in the communities we service with a focus on Equity and Hauora Māori. They primarily work in compliance, environmental health, communicable disease surveillance and investigations, emergency management and border health protection.
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, enable and evaluate health promotion projects, strategies, policies, interventions and initiatives that address determinants of health and wellbeing – aligned with community and government priorities.
- Contribute knowledge, expertise and ideas to local, regional and national teams and programmes of work.
Te Mana Ora wants an Health Protection Officer that:
- Has a relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in Public Health or Environmental Health.
- Is capable of undertaking the full range of Health Protection Officer duties or a commitment to achieving competencies within six months of appointment.
- Has a clean, valid Full New Zealand Driver's Licence.
- Has the ability to work collaboratively alongside communities and wider stakeholders.
- Has excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Can demonstrate the competencies to be appointed as a Health Protection Officer by the Director-General of Health or achieve the competencies within six months of appointment.
Experience in Health Protection work in NZ or as an Environmental Health Officer in NZ or similar from overseas would be advantageous.
