Selwyn starts search for Canterbury Museum board representative
The Selwyn District Council has started the search for a new representative on the Canterbury Museum board.
“Our council is one of the contributing partners of the Museum and Selwyn residents contribute financially to the running and the redevelopment of the Museum, so it is important we recruit a strong board member to support the Museum and represent our interests,” says Mayor Sam Broughton.
The Mayor says that the council expects candidates to have a strong financial acumen, experience in project management or construction and a proven track record of governance in complex environments.
"The Museum’s redevelopment faces financial challenges which not only impact the Museum board but also our region’s residents. Major construction projects are always challenging to manage, so we are looking for an experienced pair of hands to provide support for their board, and also represent Selwyn residents,” says Mayor Broughton.
The Council has committed nearly $1.6 million each year for the next four years to contributing costs for the Museum in its Long-Term Plan, with total investment of $6.4m for the period 2025-29. Canterbury Museum has requested that the contributing authorities increase their financial support to cover the shortfall in the redevelopment costs.
Brannigans is the agency supporting Council with this recruitment.
