New study seeking people living with shoulder pain
A research team from the University of Otago is looking for people aged 35 years or older, with shoulder pain for more than 3 months.
You may be eligible for this study if you:
- Have had shoulder pain for more than 3 months for which they have not yet had physiotherapy care;
- Have not had any shoulder surgery;
- Have not had a shoulder dislocation, or fracture (broken bone) of the upper arm; or
- Have not re-injured the shoulder in the past 3 months.
You would be asked to attend a screening examination, and will be asked to attend up to eight physiotherapy sessions if included. This will include discussing personalised information about shoulder pain, and exercises for the shoulder and whole body at the School of Physiotherapy Clinics (32 Oxford Terrace, Christchurch Central). Half of the participants will also receive manual therapy (hands-on work) for the shoulder.
Participants are not charged for the physiotherapy sessions, but will need to cover their own transport to the Clinic.
