Health-related workshops from Canterbury WEA

Come along to the WEA and learn ways to support your physical and mental wellbeing at these upcoming offerings in May 2025. All sessions are held at their Central City location (59 Gloucester Street).

Find out about other courses or sessions coming up at the Canterbury WEA. Discounts are always available to those with a Community Services (CSC) or Hāpai Card.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Explore culturally appropriate models of wellbeing and care in an interactive series of sessions with Dr Murray Cameron. Your personal views and wisdom will be welcome. Then develop individual tools and actions, that can provide stability and enable you to flourish in our challenging world.

Dates: Mondays starting on 12th May 2025 (5 sessions).
Time: 12.30 to 2pm.
Cost: $47 per person or $35 with a Hapai or Community Services Card.

Note: No class on Monday 2nd June as it is a public holiday.

Reversing Diabetes Naturally: A Plant-Based Approach

The road to diabetes does not have to be a one-way street. Gain the knowledge, tools, and lifestyle strategies that help individuals reduce the risk of developing diabetes, managing and even potentially reversing the disease. This workshop with Katarina Tawiri features nutrition education and cooking demonstrations. Receive a selection of affordable and easy recipes they can prepare at home as well.

This workshop is suitable for diabetics, prediabetes, or people with a family history of risk factors for the disease.

Date: Saturday 17th May 2025.
Time: 9.30am to 12.30pm.
Cost: $28 per person or $21 with a Hapai or Community Services Card.

Pre-Retirement Planning

Recently retired, retiring soon, or thinking about it? Retirement can be one of the biggest changes we face and is about how we transition from one major set of activities to another. A well-planned retirement can be a deeply satisfying and exciting time of your life.

During these interactive workshops with Chris Beardsley, you will gain an understanding of the implications of retirement across multiple dimensions including your psychological and physical health and wellness.

Dates and Times:

  • Saturday 17th May (9am to 1pm);
  • Tuesdays from 20th May (5.30 to 7.30pm for 4 weeks); and
  • Saturday 14th June (9am to 1pm).

Cost: $95 per person or $71 with a Hapai or Community Services Card.
