Understanding the Treaty with Network Waitangi Otautahi
Join Network Waitangi Ōtautahi (NWO) to reflect and explore the Treaty of Waitangi in a current context at this two-day workshop. The course will start where people are at, in a non-confrontational style to refresh your understanding and clarify what the Treaty means today.
Dates: Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th December 2024.
Time: 9.30am to 4.30pm both days. Tea and coffee provided. Please bring your own lunch.
Location: Canterbury WEA (59 Gloucester Street, Christchurch CBD).
Cost: $70 per person. A discount is available for Community Service Card holders.
This course is designed for those with limited or no knowledge or as a refresh regarding current approaches and thinking.
Tutor Katherine Peet walks the talk, nurtures understanding in a non-threatening way and allows participants room to discuss various viewpoints as they develop understanding.
The workshop will explore:
- ancestry, cultural difference and cultural safety;
- pre-Treaty and post-Treaty history;
- colonisation and social statistics; and
- new ways of thinking, living and working.
A handbook of resources is provided so note-taking is not necessary. An additional booklet titled "The Treaty of Waitangi Questions and Answers" (2019) will be available to purchase for $5 - please bring cash on the day.
