Losing Balance: How We Failed the RMA
Be part of this timely and thought-provoking discussion to contribute to the conversation about the future of environmental governance in New Zealand.
The Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) was world leading planning legislation and arguably still is despite crippling amendments. A child of neoliberalism it prioritised rights and the market in the planning of land use. Why then, have both previous coalition governments sought to replace it? How and why has it failed? And will the new regime be better?
This session will be presented by Associate Professor of Environmental Management and Planning Dr Hamish Rennie and is part of Lincoln University's State of the Land series.
Date: Wednesday 1st April 2026.
Time: 4 to 5.30pm. Presentation begins at 4.20pm.
Location: Stewart Building at Lincoln University. A livestream option is also available.
Cost: FREE.
