Get support from Tamaiti Healthy Homes
Te Puawaitanga ki Ōtautahi Trust and Tangata Atumotu Trust provide the Tamaiti Healthy Homes service for low income aiga and whānau who live in cold, damp and unhealthy homes. This FREE service includes a comprehensive housing assessment and an individualised action plan to create a warmer, drier, healthier home.
The service supports whānau where a home is making children sick by improving how people live in the home or supporting them to try to find another home if required.
Staff make a whānau plan with our families - what is important to them - and support them to make changes to improve the health of their home.
What Tamaiti Healthy Homes does
The service has both Māori and Pasifika assessors - though the service is for everyone.
When their kaiarotake/ assessors undertake a visit, they look at everything from house quality, bedding, heating as well as providing education and advocacy for the family with landlords etc.
Solving housing issues is complex, so it isn’t always a quick fix. Staff look for support from a range of areas through housing and intervention networks to assist where they can to improve the housing quality.
