CEA Charitable Trust continues with free insulation
Community Energy Action Charitable Trust (CEA) will continue to offer free insulation for the foreseeable future to eligible owner-occupiers in Mid and North Canterbury and across the West Coast. This is thanks to a continuation of the government’s Warmer Kiwi Homes (WKH) programme and despite a drop in the WKH subsidy level from 90 to 80 percent of the total cost of installing insulation.
CEA will keep using its discretional funding to make this possible, but would not be able to offer free insulation on its own without the continued generous support of Orion, MainPower and Rata Foundation in Canterbury and Development West Coast on the Coast.
Insulation and heating keeps homes warmer and ultimately people healthier. It will save on energy, it will save on health costs especially with the cold days and nights we are having. CEA can install insulation at a cost for those not eligible for the programme. Free, no-obligation assessments and quotes are available.
The Trust has been part of government programmes to warm people’s homes since before the nationwide roll-out of government subsidies in 2009 with CEA being part of the pilot of the government subsidies for insulation. In the 27 years the Trust has been operating, it has installed insulation in more than 30,000 homes. CEA also offers free comprehensive in-home energy assessments, recycled curtains through its Curtain Bank as well as group education sessions. For landlords it is offering insulation certificates for Healthy Homes Standards purposes. The certificates are free when insulation is being installed through CEA.
Homeowners, landlords and those wanting to book education sessions can contact CEA (0800 GET WARM or info[at]cea.co.nz).
