Donate your old laptop to reduce e-waste and bridge the digital divide
Recycle A Device (RAD) is an initiative which gets laptops to those who need them. RAD tracks down unwanted laptops and puts them to good use, teaching high school students the skills needed to refurbish them, and then working with community groups to get the refurbished laptops into the hands of ākonga (students) and rangatahi (young people) who need them.
Donate your old laptop or tablet to RAD! They are able to refurbish almost any laptop that is less than ten years old and comes with a charger. It doesn't have to be in working condition - we've seen it all - so bring them your Chromebook with a cracked screen, your water damaged iPad, or your battery that only lasts 60 seconds
By donating to RAD, you are:
- doing something tangible and immediate to make a difference in the life of a young person;
- diverting harmful e-waste from landfill; and
- making a positive contribution to your community and embrace social responsibility - all by getting rid of your rubbish!
Where to donate your laptop or tablet
You can take donations to Saltworks co-working space (4 Ash Street, Christchurch Central).
They only currently accept laptops and tablets. If you take your donation to reception during their open hours and say it is for Recycle a Device they will be able to hold onto it and pass it on to RAD.
Make sure to write your contact details (email preferably) on it so that RAD knows it has come from you and can send confirmation it has been data wiped.
Contact the team at Recycle A Device for more information (team[at]recycleadevice.nz).
