Canterbury Health in All Policies Newsletter: August 2022
The 1st of July marked the first day of Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand and Te Aka Whai Ora | Māori Health Authority. These new entities are the beginning of a unified health system which partners with hauora Māori to provide services and support more equitably across Aotearoa.
The establishment of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) also unifies Aotearoa's strong public health workforce, across regions and organisations. Te Mana Ora/Community and Public Health are part of this new national service and remain committed to HiAP and working together to improve the health of our region.
As a national HiAP Workshop for health staff recently highlighted, the transition in to a NPHS presents an exciting opportunity to share skills and knowledge of implementing HiAP approaches across the motu. The interest and enthusiasm of participants was inspiring and showcased the variety of collaborative work underway to improve whānau and community equity, health and wellbeing.
With these reforms in mind, this newsletter will be the last focused specifically on the Waitaha Canterbury region. Although Canterbury projects will still feature, this is an opportunity for new partnerships to share stories, activities and resources across the country.
