Join the Christchurch Multicultural Advisory Group
Christchurch City Council is seeking nominations for new members of the Multicultural Advisory Group that will help Christchurch fulfil its promise of being an inclusive, multicultural city that welcomes all.
Christchurch City Council is inviting applications for the Multicultural Advisory Group (MAG).
MAG provides independent advice to Council on matters affecting culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse communities in Ōtautahi.
We’re seeking a group that reflects the diversity within our community. That includes strong representation from young people, former refugees, people with disabilities, members of the rainbow community, and others who are often under‑represented.
We’re looking for people who bring lived experience, sound judgement, and the ability to think broadly, engage respectfully, and contribute constructively to discussions that affect our whole city.
The group meets every two months and plays an important role in supporting the goals of the Christchurch Multicultural Strategy – Our Future Together, including equitable access, participation, and stronger relationships across the city’s diverse communities.

“We want members who understand the opportunities and challenges faced by multicultural communities, and who can consider issues beyond their own background,” John Filsell says.
“Balanced, constructive voices are essential, with the ability to turn this knowledge into sound advice.”
People interested in being part of the Multicultural Advisory Group have until 22nd March 2026 to get their application in.
Successful applicants will be appointed to the group for a two-year term initially, although there will be a review of the Multicultural Advisory Group after its first 12 months.
