Whai Rawatia te Oranga Open groups from He Waka Tapu

He Waka Tapu is running a series of open groups to members of the community - as part of their Whai Rawatia te Oranga (Pursue the wealth of health) holistic health pursuit initiative. Open groups create a space of papa kainga ahi kā, a pā (a place where you feel connected and comfortable) to strengthen your hauora.
All sessions are held at He Waka Tapu (161 Pages Road, Wainoni).
Te Ara Mauri (Rongoā Group)
Weave together the healing power of rongoā Māori, maramataka, environmental reconnection, Te Whare Tapa Whā, and embodied hauora practices like yoga, breathwork, mindfulness, and taonga pūoro. This open group is designed for both whaiora and kaimahi and offers a holistic journey that reconnects participants to wairua, whenua, whānau, tinana, and hinengaro - enhancing resilience, identity, and wellbeing.
Date and Time: Mondays from 10am to noon - starting on 19th January 2026.

Te Reo Māori
Learn essential words, phrases, and simple sentence structures to use in everyday life while immersing yourself in the depth of Māori culture, traditions, and values. This open group will help you build your connection to Te Aō Māori and boost your confidence through fun, interactive lessons designed to make learning easy and enjoyable.
Date and Time: Mondays from 1 to 3pm.

Te Pā Tūwatawata (Tane Harm Reduction)
This is a non-mandated self management group that focuses on violence prevention supporting the tane in the whānau environment. These sessions support tāne to strengthen their Hinengaro (mental wellbeing), Wairua (spiritual wellbeing), Tinana (physical wellbeing), and Whanau (relationship wellbeing).
Date and Time: Mondays from 6 to 8pm.

Whakarereke (Wāhine Harm Reduction)
This is an exclusive program for wāhine to gain knowledge about leading a life free from harm and to recognise situations where family harm occurs. Together, we will learn in a supportive group environment, creating positive change.
Date and Time: Tuesdays from 10 to 11.30am - starting 3rd February 2026.

Waiata (Song)
Discover the beauty and depth of Māori culture through the power of waiata. Learn traditional and contemporary Māori songs, their meanings, and the cultural values they embody. No prior singing experience needed!
Date and Time: Tuesdays from 1 to 3pm.

Maanaki Rōpū
Manaaki Rōpū is a space of maintenance and support, where whaiora engage with others who are navigating abstinence or harm reduction from substance use. The collective journey is honored, with an emphasis on practical strategies, cultural connection, and holistic wellbeing.
Dates and Times: Wednesdays from 1 to 3.30pm.

Honoka (Mindfulness)
Honoka provides a simple and practical way to learn to observe our thoughts, rather than be trapped by them and worrying about the past or future.

Smokefree Drop in Support
Connect with a stop smoking coach from Te Ha Waitaha who will work with you and your whanau to find ways that can make quitting easier. Specific support is available to you if you are Māori, Pacific, pregnant or living with a pregnant woman.
Date and Time: Thursdays from 9 to 11am - starting 22nd January 2026.
