UC Information Session on Translation and Interpreting
Translation and Interpreting courses at the University of Canterbury offer students advanced training in cross-cultural and cross-linguistic communication - enabling them to work as professional interpreters and translators.

Time: 4.15 to 5.30pm.
Location: University of Canterbury.
Students can hone their practice in community settings, such as legal and health settings or explore the rapidly evolving world of AI and audiovisual translation (AVT). For in-depth language immersion, students can take advantage of internship opportunities or an overseas study pathway.
Qualifications include:
- Eligibility to apply for certification tests with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI);
- Postgraduate Certificate in Translation and Interpreting (PGCertT&I): 6 months full-time;
- Postgraduate Diploma in Translation and Interpreting (PGDipT&I): 12 months full-time;
- Master of Applied Translation and Interpreting (MATI): 18 months full-time (pathway to PhD); and
- Doctor of Philosophy (Translation & Interpreting): 3–4 years full-time, up to 6 years part-time.
