Inuagural Professorial Lecture: Creating change? People, place and power
Hear University of Otago Professor Sophie Bond reflect on her research as a geographer focussing primarily on community responses to social and environmental change. Sophie’s research prioritises the needs and interests of the communities and organisations she works with and translates findings into formats that are useful for them. It is underpinned by her commitment to decolonial research practices and social and environmental justice.

Sophie's work has two overlapping themes:
- Grassroots communities seeking justice and self-determination, and is grounded in theories of environmental democracy and climate justice.
- Community engagement in planning and governance.
