New tool makes finding council decisions easier
Christchurch City Council Newsline: 17th June 2026
Finding council voting records is easier than ever thanks to ‘Meeting voting records’ a new search function on the council's website.
Recently launched the tool makes it easier for everyone to see how individual councillors, community boards and committees voted on different topics.

It saves having to sort through agendas and minutes from meetings which are not always immediately available.
Team leader of Governance Processes Matt Boult said the Council is making it easier for people to find voting records by meeting, elected member, and voting outcome.
“The intent of having this online is to improve transparency and make it easier for residents, media, and elected members themselves to quickly find and review decision-making records without having to trawl through multiple meeting minutes.”
Mr Boult said ‘meeting voting records’ is already being used by residents checking how elected members voted on specific issues, media quickly verifying decisions for reporting, elected members reviewing their own voting history, and community groups tracking decisions relevant to their interests.
The idea was first touted during the last Annual Plan discussions where Council asked staff to look at ways to improve transparency and have more decision-making information available.
Decisions date back to October 2025 and are uploaded within two working days of the meeting.
Using the tool is easy, you can simply search key words like ‘Annual Plan’ and results will come up or if you have more specific details, you can input the date of the meeting and select which committee, community board or council meeting it was.
You can also search votes by councillor or community board member.
“Ratepayers elect members to council to represent them so being able to see how your local board or councillor is voting is important, this new tool makes it even easier, Mr Boult said.
