Alternative futures in child protection: With and beyond the state
Hear Professor Emily Keddell's inugural professional lecture on her research on the intersecting social inequities affecting the child protection system. Beneath this umbrella, she examines disparities for specific groups, decision-making, knowledge interpretation in practice, and the politics of state intervention in family life. She has a particular interest in the ethical implications of algorithmic tools used in child protection decision-making.

Current projects include prevention strategies to reduce care entry around the time of birth; examining reporting decisions made to statutory child protection agencies; and a study of collaborative decision-making between iwi/Māori community organisations and Oranga Tamariki. Her work prioritises whānau perspectives, and practitioner voices and experiences.
