Public meeting about Community Boards in Ōtautahi
The public meeting has been postponed due to COVID. The SŌC AGM will still go ahead.
Sustainable Ōtautahi Christchurch will confirm a new date for the public meeting later in the year as soon as possible. Thanks for your understanding.
Join Sustainable Ōtautahi Christchurch (SŌC) for a public meeting to discuss the role of community boards in Ōtautahi.
The SŌC AGM will be held from 6.30pm in advance of this public meeting.
Date: Thursday June 27th 2024.
Time: 7.30pm.
Location: Canterbury WEA (59 Gloucester Street, Central City).
The speakers will be:
- “The history and context” from Jenny Hughey (past Chair of Canterbury Regional Council and Co-Chair of Community Law Centres Aotearoa);
- “The opportunities and challenges of community boards” from Paul McMahon (Chairperson of the Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board, and Member for the Linwood Ward); and
- “Community boards impact on our travel choices journey” from Mike Davidson (former city councillor for Papanui and Chairperson of the Shirley-Papanui Community Board).
The speakers will be followed by a panel session responding to audience questions and comments. This interactive session will consider whether the community of organisations and individuals in our city working on climate, ecological and social justice issues pay enough attention to community boards and their role in our local democracy. How can we all do better?
