February events at the Richmond Community Garden

 All events will be held at the Richmond Community Garden and Riverlution Eco Hub (46A Vogel Street, Richmond) - unless stated otherwise.

Planting and gardening sessions are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

Foraging Walk: Foraging Corner

Come on down to the Richmond Community Garden for a fun family event to learn about new plants!

This walk will start at the Fungi Farm and explore one of the nearby red zone areas.

Date: Saturday 10th February 2024.
Time: 10am to 12.30pm.
Location: The Fungi Farm (251 River Road, Richmond).

Worm Farms and Composting

Make your own worm farm to take home and learn about different types of composting at this workshop from Christchurch Envirokids and the Richmond Community Garden.

Date: Saturday 10th February 2024.
Time: 10am to 1pm.
Location: The Kiosk in the Botanic Gardens.
Cost: FREE for all young nature enthusiasts!

Lunar New Year Celebration

Join this vibrant Lunar New Year celebration filled with cultural festivities, engaging workshops, and community spirit at Richmond Community Garden!

Date: Saturday 17th March 2024.
Time: 2 to 4pm.

Activities include:

  • Lion/Dragon dance workshop by Qiao Yi Lion Dance Team;
  • Lucky Chinese knot bracelet making by Confucius Institute;
  • Write your Chinese names in Chinese calligraphy by Confucius Institute;
  • Bilingual Storytimes by Shirley Library; and
  • Auspicious Chinese word badge making by Shirley Library.

Repair Riverlution

It's time to revolt against throw-away culture! Let's reclaim the things we own and take pride in maintaining and repairing them.

Skilled and professional repair volunteers will be available to help fix your stuff.

Time: 5.30 to 7.30pm.

Te Pūnaha Whakarōpū Para/Waste Hierarchy with Para Kore

Join this wānanga with Miriama from Para Kore as part of the Repair Revolution event. Miriama will investigate the many options we have for dealing with our everyday waste aside from landfill and learn the kupu Māori for the Waste Hierarchy.

Date: Tuesday 20th February 2024.
Time: 6 to 7pm.

Participants come to realise that their choices and actions can greatly influence the whole story, inspiring them to change.
