Documentary - The Inbetweeners, it is okay to be in both worlds
Asian Family Services (AFS) has recently launched the "Inbetweener" documentary. Funded by the Ministry of Ethnic Communities' Community Development Fund, the documentary is a collaboration between AFS and six outstanding individuals of 1.5, 2nd or third-generation ethnically diverse individuals weaving through the journey of identity and a sense of belonging in New Zealand.
The documentary aims to provide insight and tips on overcoming life challenges and adversity growing up as an ethnic person in New Zealand. It also brings hope to young people who might struggle with their identity. We hope to normalise but not minimise their experience and know they are not alone and can be proud of who they are, their heritage, background and the languages they speak.
Asian Family Services hopes the video conveys the changing ethnically diverse population and the narrative that represents our current and future generations who hold multiple worldviews and are true Kiwi/New Zealanders.
It is a reminder that ethnically diverse people who grow up in New Zealand walk in the two worlds and possess multiple language skills, cultural worldviews, and knowledge that can be an asset to New Zealand. The talents included in the videos are ethnically diverse individuals who significantly contribute to New Zealand.
