This training aims at building worker understanding, confidence and capacity to address this disorder to create safer environments, better connections and lasting outcomes with the clients. This often results in sustaining tenancies, child and animal safety concerns addressed, reduced fire hazards, and less stress for the client.
Hoarding Disorder can have serious impacts on individuals, families, communities. It is a costly and complex disorder that effects 3 to 5 percent of people. It can cost upwards of $30,000 to clean up a severely affected hoarding house. Professionals working with this condition can feel overwhelmed and at a loss of how to be effective when faced with hoarding behaviours.
Hoarding Unpacked training draws its information from a mix of current industry standards, case examples and strategies that facilitator Maire Joy Barron has witnessed and used in her time working in the sector as a direct in-home support worker sustaining tenancies, a hoarding support group facilitator, a hoarding consultant for government bodies, and as a trainer developer and facilitator in this specialty field for 8 years.
