Suicide Intervention Training Workshop in Christchurch

Thursday, April 12, 2018   Posted in: Training By: Administrator With tags: Training, workshop, prevention, suicide

+ASIST.A-OK is organising a 2-day ASIST Suicide Intervention Training Workshop in Christchurch. Just like a first aider can make an assessment about injuries deciding if a visit to the doctor or an ambulance is required, an +ASIST Suicide First Aider will use tools and skills to assess if a person needs immediate help and/or hospitalisation, emergency counselling or a simple connection to family or friends.

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is skills based, interactive workshop teaching you essential skills in how to:

  • recognise suicide signals
  • confidently raise the issues of suicide with an at-risk person
  • know what to ask and say to helpfully explore their issues
  • assess risk and safety needs
  • 'triage' those at risk to professional and other assistance

The course is designed for anyone and is suitable for people like kaiawhina, nurses, caregivers, social workers, teachers, counsellors, corrections officers, youth workers, ministers etc.

Date: Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th May 2018.
Time: 9am to 5pm both days.
Location: To be confirmed.
Cost: $395 plus GST per person. Subsidised places are also available (from $200 per person).
