Exciting upgrades completed at Darfield Library

Artistic scenes, impressive heritage displays and interactive experiences have all come together at Darfield Library. The changes were part of extensive renovations to the facility, which the Council finished last month.
A large feature wall showcasing historic images of the district’s working dogs welcomes visitors into the upgraded facility, while a new scenic wall panel has been installed throughout the Tamariki area. The panel is an illustrated reimagining of the Malvern landscape heading west to Arthur’s Pass, with train, animal and hot air balloon magnets available for kids to stick along the wall.
A permanent seed library made of decorative rural letter boxes provides visitors with an enticing choice of plants to share and grow, and a large wall map of the alpine landscape has also been installed.
Group Manager Community Services and Facilities Denise Kidd says Council is proud to have refreshed the library and service centre with modern updates that provide an appropriate celebration of Malvern, and gateway in to the area.
“Contemporary libraries provide a space for communities to connect and enjoy a range of activities, which is quite different to the traditional libraries of old. I’m sure many people will enjoy the new updates at Darfield. Our teams have taken great pride in the project.”
The Council was pleased to work with experienced exhibition designers, Workshop E to help create the upgraded library spaces. The company has worked on several celebrated museum and library projects throughout the country, including Rolleston’s Te Ara Ātea.
