Help maintain free dementia services
Tēnā koe Dementia Canterbury are exceptionally proud of the services and support they provide to local people with mate wareware and their whānau. However they need your help to continue to offer these services free of charge long-term!
Two-thirds of Dementia Canterbury’s funding comes from the community and the people they support across Canterbury and the West Coast are reliant on donations to access their services at no cost.

Your support will help whānau like Sarah’s to navigate a Dementia diagnosis alongside their loved one. Sarah’s mum Lois was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease in February 2021, and she had a hard time accepting her diagnosis. The whānau were referred to Dementia Canterbury and Lois has since become involved in many social, physical and mental hauora-focused activities.
Sarah says that the difference Dementia Canterbury’s support has made for her Mum and the family is huge.
“The team stood beside mum and our family, gave us information, tools and reassurance that enabled us to feel more confident and relaxed with the path ahead of us. Mum has a much more positive outlook on life now.”
There are thousands of whānau like Sarah’s who access our support.
This week is Dementia Canterbury’s Annual Appeal. Hundreds of volunteers will be taking to the streets on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th November 2022, to raise awareness and funds for our Dementia support services.
Keep an eye out for the Dementia Canterbury collectors in their red vests across Canterbury and the West Coast and come and have a kōrero. We’d love to hear your Dementia story.
