Temporary skate park opening
Selwyn District Council media release: 2nd November 2021
A temporary skate park will be installed on Rolleston Reserve by Isaac Construction while the next stage of the infrastructure work on the Rolleston town centre continues and the existing skate park is removed.
Work on installing services, building the new slow road and car parking for the town centre has required working more closely to the skate park edges than originally planned. The skate park is not safe to use with the size and scale of the work so close and so has been closed.
Contractors will be installing a temporary skate park for the community to use at the northern end of the reserve next to the tennis courts.
The temporary skate park will be open from Monday 15th November 2021.
The construction of a new youth zone - including a skate park - will commence in early 2022. The youth zone will be adjacent to the town square, amphitheatre and retail areas of the town centre. It has been designed based on feedback from Selwyn’s young people and will feature a half basketball court, spaces to sit and hang out, table tennis tables and a performance deck with sound system. The park is due to open by mid-2022.
