Update on Government insulation and heating grants
Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) says funding towards insulation will continue over the next four years. However there will be no funding for landlords after 30th June 2018. It will be new heating grants available from July 2019.
Summary of the subsidy changes from 1st July 2018
Landlords will NOT be eligible for Government subsidy for insulating their rental property from 1st July 2018.
Tenants and landlords are urged to call Community Energy Action on 0800 GET WARM. CEA are expecting an influx of landlords and could book up quickly.
The deadline for the current landlord subsidy is 30th June 2018.
- Homeowners will be able to access grants covering two thirds of the cost of installing ceiling and underfloor insulation.
CEA recommends that homeowners get in touch to book an assessment of their insulation and to see if they qualify for the new subsidies.
- Grants to install heating appliances will be available from July 2019.
Who is eligible for new grants from 1st July 2018
Those on low incomes who own and live in their homes (not landlords) are eligible for the insulation grants. Low income will be defined as those who either:
- have a Community Services Card, OR
- live in a New Zealand Deprivation Index decile 9 or 10 area, OR
- are families referred through the Ministry of Health’s Healthy Homes Initiative.
