Changes to Christmas/New Year rubbish collection days

Wednesday, December 06, 2017   Posted in: Resources and Information By: Administrator With tags: recycling, waste

It’s that time of year, when you are busy putting up your Christmas decorations and wrapping your presents, that Councils gently remind you of changes to rubbish and recycling services during the festive season. Councils have limited changes this year to cause the least disruption and to keep it simple.

Christchurch City Council wheelie bin collection

A woman puts out a wheelie bin.Everyone’s wheelie bins will be emptied one day later than normal this Christmas and New Year as changes to the kerbside collection service are rolled out.

Public confusion over when bins should be put out if a collection day falls on certain public holidays has prompted changes to the existing arrangements.

Collections will continue as normal on all public holidays except for New Year’s Day, Easter Good Friday, Anzac Day and Christmas Day.

On those public holidays wheelie bins will be emptied the day following the normal collection day.

“As Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Monday this year, this means the Monday collection will move to Tuesday, the Tuesday collection will move to Wednesday, the Wednesday collection will move to Thursday, the Thursday collection will move to Friday, and the Friday collection will move to Saturday," says Christchurch City Council Solid Waste Manager Ross Trotter.

You can download the free wheelie bins app to keep track of when your CCC wheelie bin needs to go out from:

Rubbish and Recycling Collection in Waimakariri

“This is a busy time for our rubbish and recycling services and we want to make sure that you have all the information you need.  We don’t want you to be left with wrapping paper, boxes and bottles cluttering up your homes – so please make note of the simple service changes.” says Solid Waste Asset Manager Kitty Waghorn.

The main change is that only Monday collection days for rubbish and recycling will change from Monday 25th December (week 2 recycling) and from Monday 1st January (week 1 recycling) to the following Saturdays.
