Getting Through Together Digest: 23rd September 2021
Kia ora How are those well-deserved Level 3 feels, Tāmaki Makaurau?!
We hope you've found a way to celebrate your incredible Level 4 efforts - whether it's a barista-made coffee, takeaways from your favourite local, or satisfying your DIY cravings with a contactless pick-up.
There's still a lot of challenges at Level 3, and we know that for some whānau it can actually be tougher, such as when a caregiver who has been helping entertain the kids has to go back to work.
Remember it's normal to feel all sorts of things during and after tough situations and experiences. You're definitely not alone in your feelings. Being able to recognise and name them helps us work it out. We can do this together. Whāia e tātou te pae tawhiti.
In this issue, we catch up with the editor of NZ Mountain Biker and share all the ways he is taking care of himself during lockdown. We report back on our (very unscientific) taking the pulse experiment, and share a tip-top tip that could see you score some free ice cream.
Because eating ice cream can improve alertness and mental performance - according to one study anyway!

Not all right?
New challenges and the loss of our regular routines is causing stress for many of us. This can really erode our wellbeing over time. It’s important to remember to do the little things that help recharge us. It’s also important to know there is someone to talk to and free help available.
It’s all right to reach out if you need to - we all need a bit of support from time-to-time.
Call or text 1737 to speak with a trained counsellor anytime - it’s free and completely confidential. You can also call Lifeline on 0800 543354 or text HELP to 4357.
Check out the Mental Health Foundation’s website for further advice on how to stay mentally well during this time.
