Getting Through Together Digest: 14th October 2021
Kia ora We know a lot of people are finding things pretty tough right now, with more of us in lockdown, stubborn case numbers, and uncertainty about when things will get back to ‘normal’ (whatever that looks like!).
Even with all the challenges we’re facing, there are ways we can focus in on things that bring us hope. Simple things that can help us feel more hopeful include:
- Noticing the beautiful things around us.
- Thinking about things we’re grateful for.
- Connecting with friends or whānau.
- Limiting 'doom-scrolling' and taking a break from the news.
- Discovering inspiring stories and people.
In this edition, we share a (very old) word that describes how many of us are feeling right now, learn more about loneliness, provide three tips for getting through the challenging bits, share a first-hand account of life in quarantine and ask the deep question… "What would a dog do right now?”
We hope you enjoy this week's wellbeing dose!

Not all right?
New challenges and the loss of our regular routines is causing stress for many of us. This can really erode our wellbeing over time. It’s important to remember to do the little things that help recharge us. It’s also important to know there is someone to talk to and free help available.
It’s all right to reach out if you need to - we all need a bit of support from time-to-time.
Call or text 1737 to speak with a trained counsellor anytime - it’s free and completely confidential. You can also call Lifeline on 0800 543354 or text HELP to 4357.
Check out the Mental Health Foundation’s website for further advice on how to stay mentally well during this time.
