CDHB Health in All Policies Newsletter: November 2017

Wednesday, November 08, 2017   Posted in: Newsletters By: Administrator With tags: newsletter, health in all policies

New health minister David Clark recently commented in the NZ Doctor (14 September 2017): “We know the oft-quoted figure that 80 per cent of the determinants of health sit outside of the health sector, and that is why right up front in Labour’s health policy we have that catch-all that says we will have health in all policies.”

These linkages are highlighted throughout this issue. For example, read about a new World Health Organization book examining how to progress the Sustainable Development Goals through HiAP. This publication features a case study on how HiAP was applied to the initial Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy.

These links also lie at the heart of health inequities – the unfair and avoidable differences in health status. An article in this newsletter will explore how structural bias contributes to inequities and an opportunity to reduce them by increasing accessibility.

Attend Broadly Speaking - our free interactive workshop focusing on the determinants of health - if you are interested in exploring these links further. This newsletter gives details on how to register for our first sessions in 2018.

You might have noticed our newsletter has a new look. We plan to evolve our look and functionality over the coming issues. We know your time is precious and we want this newsletter to be valuable for you so please share your stories and suggestions to help us improve.

Kind regards,

Evon Currie
General Manager at Community and Public Health
