He Waka Ora: Plan and run effective wellbeing initiatives
Supporting mental health and wellbeing following a disaster is essential for a community’s recovery.
Every community is different – with different needs, values and characteristics. There is no single approach to psychosocial recovery that will work everywhere and for everyone.
However there are some elements that are essential for a successful psychosocial recovery programme. These have been identified and shared on the new He Waka Ora website.
He Waka Ora captures and pulls together the experiences of the All Right? campaign so that those supporting communities following a disaster know some of the key steps needed to effectively support a community wellbeing.
He Waka Ora provides insights on:
- key psychosocial stages;
- understanding and measuring community wellbeing;
- best practice mental health promotion and social marketing;
- building and maintaining support;
- utilising a wide range of skills and specialties; and
- determining the impact of your actions.
The website also contains plenty of examples of All Right? initiatives that have helped people promote and activate wellbeing.
