Christchurch City Council Newsline: 13th February 2017

New Brighton’s landmark library is back in business.

After a six month closure for earthquake repairs the popular library adjoining the pier reopened to the public this morning.

The building, which sustained moderate damaged in the February 2011 earthquake, has had its concrete columns and floors repaired and the east-facing first floor windows replaced. It has also been repainted and had new carpet installed.

New Brighton Library's newest member Henry Ridpath (2) signs up for his new card.A temporary library at 60 Brighton Mall served the community while the New Brighton Library was closed.

“New Brighton Library has the best scenery of any of the libraries in our network and we’re delighted to be able to reopen for the community’s viewing pleasure,” says Christchurch City Council Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson.

“This is the first in a series of openings that Christchurch City Libraries has lined up for 2017, and everyone who came along this morning can attest to how good it feels to have a beloved community facility back up and running.”

The next library to reopen after earthquake repairs will be Lyttelton Library and Customer Services on Monday 13th March 2017.

New Brighton Library is open 9am to 6pm weekdays and from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
